Resumé: Chira

A description of 2 more trips at Lake Chira. It didn’t result in a lot of big carps but I had some fantastic days in the mountains. Most important thing, were the meeting with 2 guys from France, Jean Marc and Jean Luke. This turned out to be friendships for many years to come.

Between these travels abroad, I caught my first 15+ Danish Carps. It happened in a team-work with Jakob Gottchalk.
Below this article, there’s an afterword in English. It’s the short description, of a mile-stone in my angling.

Afterword: Chira

The Little headline “Dansk intermezzo/Danish intermezzo” Is a culmination of 7-years search for new carp-waters in Denmark.
It was not easy to sniff out a locality, with really big fish.

Finder’s salary: Spending time in the surroundings of “Hove Trout Lake”, I came across the right guy. He got information concerning, one of these few sacred relics.
After tough negotiations in a friendly tone, we both had a sensible result.
For my part, I was finally in possession of information, about a lake that reportedly housed several carp, over dreamlike 15kg.

Spring of 2000 was just around the corner, when Jakob Gottschalk with his warm hat well cowering the ears, was shown this newfound jewel.
We planned the fishing for the next few months. Jakob fished one weekend and I the following.
This way, we could benefit from each other’s experiences through the project.

Known Carps: On my third trip 5-6 weeks after campaign start, a monster came on the bank. At first glance, this 15kg mirror-carp seemed strangely familiar.
Days after, when the film-roll was turned to pictures, could the fish be identified with certainty.
It was the animal on the front-cover of Kenth Espensen’s book released in 1994 “Karper: Medefiskeriets Storvildt/Carps: Big Game of coarse fishing”

Next rough 15+ mirror, i rapped in the net, my envious eyes had seen in Jens Bursell’s book released in 1999 “Medefiskeri/Coarse fishing”

Tuch of luck had been beyond usual. If in doubt before! I knew for certain now, how rare Danish carps in this size were!
